clinical:
| • | occurs in healthy full term newborn (a history of perinatal hypothermia, asphyxia, or difficult labor is common) |
| • | one or more dusky red nodules which often become fluctuant and discharge an oily liquid |
| • | spontaneous resolution in a few weeks |
histology:
| • | needle shaped clefts in foamy histiocytes and adipocytes |
| • | an inflammatory disease, therefore: multiple foci of fat necrosis associated with striking granulomatous panniculitis |
