A few concepts to think about:

 

 

Choosing treatment based on immunopathogenesis:

The concept of "treat according to immunopathogenesis" is interesting but not always practical, however some useful concepts are presented below:

neutrophilic or more generally: "granulocytic" (i.e. includes neuts and eos) dermatoses

•“anti-neutrophil” drugs = dapsone, colchicine, SSKI

Granulomatous dermatoses

•tetracyclines – inhibit T-cell proliferation/ granuloma formation in vitro
•tetracyclines treat – sarcoid,  silicone-induced subcutaneous granulomas, granulomatous cheilitis.

 

Lichenoid dermatoses

•thalidomide?????

•dapsone:          dermatitis herpetiformis, Sneddon-Wilkinson
•Plaquenil:        tumid LE/REM, SCLE
•Accutane:        acne
