TNF (tumor necrosis factor):

a major cause of septic shock accompanying severe gram-negative infections

 

 

INTERFERONS:

two different families of genes
these two types of IFN proteins are unrelated to each other structurally and their major functions are also different
however, all IFNs inhibit the replication of diverse viruses and they share other actions

 

 

Type I IFN:

the IFN alpha/beta “superfamily”

 

Type II IFN:

IFN gamma
