ARTHROPODS – includes the classes: crustacea (crabs, shrimp,lobster), insecta, arachnida and others

 

 

Arachnida:

•a class of arthropods; eight legs (some larval forms have six)
•include:  scorpions, spiders, mites, ticks

mites:

•Sarcoptes scabiei
•Demodex folliculorum

 

chigger – a bloodsucking stage of mites that includes the vector for scrub typhus

 

 

 

Insecta:

•the insects, the largest class of the phylum Arthropoda
•possess three pairs of jointed legs, and often two pairs of wings

 

louse (pl. lice):  common name for members of the ectoparasitic insect orders

•head louse (Pediculus humanus capitis)
•body louse (Pediculus humanus humanus)
•pubic louse (Pthirus pubis)

 

nit – the ovum or hatched egg of a body, head, or crab louse; the egg is attached to human hair or clothing by a layer of chitin
