Intertriginous

Top  Previous  Next

Some diseases distribute this way because of the moist environment:

Candida intertrigo
pemphigus vegetans

others because this is the distribution of apocrine glands:

Fox-Fordyce
hidradenitis suppurativa
extramammary Paget’s disease

and others for unknown reasons:

HSV type II
Bowens disease
LS and A
perianal streptococcal cellulitis/dermatitis
Hailey-Hailey disease
Darier's disease
inverse pityriasis rosea
histiocytosis X
scabies

hmtoggle_plus1"Intertrigo" ddx (red and scaly groin folds):
candida (mnemonic: symmetric, scrotum, and satellites)
dermatophyte
erythrasma
inverse psoriasis
seborrheic dermatitis

*rule of thumb:  intertrigo that does not respond to treatment - biopsy it (for extramammary paget's vs. histiocytosis etc...)
