a lymphoproliferative disorder of the elderly in which IgM producing lymphoplasmacytoid cells proliferate in the bone marrow and/or lymph nodes
clinical features:  weight loss, weakness, anemia, bleeding diathesis
cutaneous:  usually non-specific and result form hyperviscosity of the blood an bleeding tendency (purpura, leg ulcers etc...)
