•grossly – hairs are brittle and easily broken, patchy alopecia
•classic type:  unassociated with other disorders and improves by puberty

•Björnstad’s syndrome (congenital cochlear deafness with pili torti)
•Menkes’ kinky hair syndrome
•isotretinoin therapy
•trichothiodystrophy
