occurs most commonly in the urinary and GI tract, rarely is the skin affected (although if present, it is usually the vulva or perianal areas)
skin lesions are variable fluctuant abscess, draining sinuses
lesions are the result of faulty phagocytosis of bacteria by macrophages
Michaelis-Gutman bodies are seen in histiocytes and are thought to be phagolysosomes
E. coli and Staph Aureus are cultured from tissue (with E. coli being most common)
