•used to determine grade of leprosy, not to diagnose leprosy
•lepromin is killed bacilli
•positive in tuberculoid leprosy  (patient is able to produce a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction )
•Fernandez reaction – positive in 48hrs
•Mitsuda reaction – positive in 28 days
