| • | aphthous ulcerations are common in patients with IBD, are thought to represent an autoimmune reaction |
| • | in IBD patients, the lesions occur only on mucosa not bound to periosteum |
characteristic of Crohn’s:
| • | linear ulcerations of the buccal vestibule, a cobblestone appearance of the buccal mucosa, swelling of the gingiva and lips |
| • | biopsy of these lesions of the lips show non-necrotizing granulomatous inflammation |
Cutaneous Crohn's disease:
| • | AKA metastatic Crohn’s disease (= no direct connection to gut) |
| • | often umbilicus or groin region |
| • | all have granulomatous histology |
